Edinburgh Napier University's MSc in Publishing

MSc Publishing at Edinburgh Napier University is an internationally renowned postgraduate programme celebrating over 50 years of excellence in Publishing education. Award-winning and market-leading, we were first to appoint a Publisher in Residence, first to establish a student-powered Publishing imprint, first to launch an industry funded Scholarship, first to secure accreditation. We remain the only Publishing course to be doubly accredited by the only two accrediting bodies in the UK.

Our teaching is student-centred. Our programme is enhanced by industry collaboration. Our ethos embraces a strong social and ethical focus, inclusivity and collective responsibility.

As part of their studies, our MSc Publishing postgraduate students are able to work as a publishing team in our publishing imprint, Merchiston Publishing.

Merchiston Publishing is the first University imprint in the UK powered by Publishing students. We have over 10 years’ expertise of publishing books and magazines. Our ethos embraces a strong social and ethical focus, instilling in our graduates a sense of global citizenship and social responsibility. Our lists include: Books Behind Bars, Books Beyond the Boundaries and Forgotten Female Writers:

This year, we are proud to announce THREE new books. These new anthologies mark a new and exciting development of our values and vision.

Working with industry, literary and academic partners, our students will publish and launch three new anthologies this year:

1. Fortunate Voyager, A Celebration of Robert Louis Stevenson – a collaboration with the Robert Louis Stevenson Club

2. Lost, Looking & Found – an anthology of prose, poetry and images, featuring writers and artists from Edinburgh Literary Salon

3. You’re on Mute! And Other Snapshots of Lockdown – a Napier Big Read anthology, showcasing the creativity of students and staff across Edinburgh Napier University

These books are the first of their kind. They demonstrate the incredible talents of our MSc Publishing students, and are testament to our strong links with industry partners and literary organisations.

Fortunate Voyager, A Celebration of Robert Louis Stevenson

In honour of its centenary, the RLS Club, in collaboration with Merchiston Publishing, is proud to present Fortunate Voyager, a collection of essays celebrating the enduring influence of Robert Louis Stevenson. Exploring a range of themes, and with contributions from a number of established writers and well-known figures, the anthology illustrates the remarkable spirit and impact of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Lost, Looking & Found

As the Edinburgh Literary Salon’s first publication, this book seeks to build and strengthen ties within the community. The Salon has chosen to solidify a long-standing connection with Edinburgh Napier University and Merchiston Publishing. Lost, Looking & Found features prose, poetry, and illustrations, all based on the theme of Renaissance. In this anthology, the Edinburgh Literary Salon will showcase the creative work of its diverse membership, and shine a light on some of Scotland’s established writers and emerging voices.

You’re on Mute! And Other Snapshots of Lockdown

In a time when isolation and loneliness are all too common, Napier Big Read aims to bring people together. You’re on Mute! And Other Snapshots of Lockdown is an anthology created by students and staff at Edinburgh Napier University that shares the everyday experiences of living and learning in lockdown – from the relatable difficulties, to the unexpected joys.
